IF YOU LOOK CLOSELY YOU WILL SEE A HELICOPTER.
I took this photo at 5000mts while trekking from Thukla to Lobuche below Mt Everest base camp. The Helicopters on its way to Base camp to rescue another victim of Altitude sickness. It is imperative to get the patient to lower altitude quickly if they have any chance of survival. This is almost a daily occurrence during the climbing season. The Helicopters they use are very special to be able to operate here as the altitude makes the air so thin it is a challenge to get sufficient lift to stay up. There are no roads, no airfields here. Not even motorcycles or trail bikes can operate even if they could negotiate the terrain (which they can't). Mechanised transport is a long way away. We hear occasional stories on the news of people dying on Everest but it only makes the news if it is a person from your locality. The fact is every year many people sucum to this fate but you don't hear about it. I went to the Himalayas to see how far I could push my boundaries. I made it back. Some sadly push a little too far and don't. But that's what makes life worth living. So cherish every moment guys.
